Monthly Campouts
The troop monthly camping program provides an opportunity for the Scouts to participate in the complete Scouting experience. At most of these campouts, the Scouts plan their own meals and prepare their own food. Active participation in the monthly camping program is essential to timely advancement since this is where the Scouts develop and practice most of the skills required for the first three rank advancements. Monthly campouts are held every month except June, July, August and December, due to summer camp and the Holidays. The fee for a campout is $20 for scouts and waived for adults in most cases. Adults who plan to attend Campouts or BSA Summer Camp must be registered scouters and have completed
BSA Youth Protection Trainingas well as the
Protecting God's Children course through the Joliet dioceses.
Summer Camp
Summer camp is an integral part of the Scouting experience. Every year the troop schedules 2 weeks of summer camp at various BSA campsites. At summer camp the boys can spend 1 or 2 weeks participating in a great outdoor program. At camp the scouts can earn many
merit badges, such as Motorboating, Metalwork, Swimming and Pioneering. For first year scouters there is a first year camper program where they can earn most of the Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class Requirements. A list of suggested items to pack is available
here.
High Adventure
High Adventure activities are generally limited to Scouts who are at least 13 or 14 years old. We feel it is essential to offer high adventure opportunities to the older scouts in our troop. For the last 10 years we have planned and completed many High Adventure trips. These include: National Jamborees, Philmont Backpacking Treks, Florida Sea Base Sailing Adventures, and Boundary Waters Canoe Area WildernessDoors.
